Mr. Mauks Web Page
This year is going to be different from any school year I have taught before. We are going to have new challenges and new opportunities in the learning process. This opportunity allows us the space to try new things. Some things we will get right and keep. Other things we will get wrong and we will learn from those missteps.
As your teacher I promise that I will be understanding and patient as we work our way through this new world of education. Just remember that it is as new for me as it is for you. As a student, one of the most important traits that you will need to bring to this year is the ability to be self-directed. There will be many opportunities for you to say "I'll do that later" or "I'd rather do . . ." or fill in the excuse. This new way of teaching relies on the student completing some of their schoolwork at home without a teacher to guide them. There will time in class and over Zoom meetings for me and your classmates to help you navigate this new learning environment but truly, this year more than ever, your learning is really in your hands. My promise to you is that what you put into this Biology class is what you will get out of it. I know that for many of you this is daunting and scary but together we will find our way through this year and come out with more knowledge on the other side, not just about Biology but also about who we are as people.
