PITTSFORD CENTRAL SCHOOLS
APPLIED MUSIC CREDIT FOR PRIVATE
PIANO and GUITAR STUDY
New York State allows students to earn credit toward the Regents High School diploma by taking private music lessons from qualified teachers. A prescribed set of rules and regulations governs this program. Students in grades 9-12 at Pittsford Central Schools may earn ¼ credit per year for successful completion of all requirements of the program*. In order to participate in this program, students must:
- Have completed one year of private music study as a prerequisite.
- Take a minimum of 36 lessons (30 minutes or longer) during the school year.
- Pass a performance examination such as participation in a recognized festival, recital, or audition.
In place of a festival, students can send in a recording of a solo to be reviewed by the music department.
To enroll in this program the attached must be filed with the appropriate high school building leader not later than October 21st. A packet of materials for the student and private teacher will be issued upon receipt of the application. Questions concerning the program can be addressed to:

*Credit awarded for Applied Music Study does not satisfy the one credit course required for graduation by part 100 of the Commissioner’s Regulations.
