Enrichment Opportunities
-
Students looking for enrichment opportunities should consider one or more of the following options. Students may only submit one of each option per marking period.
1.) PCSD Music Standard: Communicate
Choose one of the composers of a band piece you are currently studying and e-mail me a brief (one page) research paper about that composer. Include information about the composer’s birth and death dates, nationality, compositional style, influences (by and to), significant musical contributions (in both style and body of work) and cultural significance.
2.) PCSD Music Standard: Communicate
E-mail me a quote about the cultural and/or philosophical influence of music. Include the quote, the person being quoted (with a brief description of their job title or what they are known for) and your source. Also include your interpretation of the quote’s meaning.
3.) PCSD Music Standard: Analyze
Find a song in one or more of the following styles that features your band instrument (percussionists should use vibraphone or timpani). E-mail me the song (with title, composer & performer) as well as a link to an audio sample of the piece demonstrating your instrument.
Jazz (Swing or Latin)
Rock/Pop
Classical
4.) PCSD Music Standard: Analyze
Find a song in one or more of the following styles that is in an odd meter (feeling of 5, 7, 11, etc.). E-mail me the song (with title, composer & performer) as well as a link to an audio sample of that piece. In addition, tell me what meter you think the song is in.
Jazz (Swing or Latin)
Rock/Pop
Classical
5.) PCSD Music Standard: Analyze
Attend a performance that features a soloist on your instrument. E-mail me the performance information (date, time, venue, soloist, featured song title(s) and composer(s)) as well as your brief reflection of the performance quality (performer’s technical ability, use of expression, stage presence, literature selection).
6.) PCSD Music Standard: Perform
Submit a concert program of a non-curricular performing ensemble that you participated in (extra-curricular school group, church ensemble, Eastman or Hochstein community group).
