Allen Vizzutti visit

From The Viking Voice:
On Friday, May 18, 2012, Pittsford held its 3rd annual district jazz festival to celebrate the hard work of the entire jazz studies program from grades 6-12 on both sides of the district. Each year’s festival has featured a guest artist, but this year we were fortunate enough to bring in world-renown trumpet artist Allen Vizzutti. Mr. Vizzutti, an Eastman School of Music graduate, has spent decades of his career traveling the world to perform with the greatest of musicians, performing with symphony orchestras and big bands as well as recording for numerous movie soundtracks and his own cd projects. He spent time at MHS rehearsing with our jazz ensemble and shared his perspective and insights on everything from performance technique to the value of sustaining the arts in our culture as he spoke to all of our music students in a clinic setting, all while dazzling us with his trumpet ability. A true showman, he wowed the audience in concert performing with each of the district’s jazz ensembles and brought the house to a rousing standing ovation with his remarkable musicianship. The performance can be seen on the podcast link of the district website. Mr. Vizzutti’s visit would not have been possible without the dedication of Mr. Tom Indiano (SHS) and the generous support of our very own F.A.M.E. (Families Advocating Music Education). Our music students are very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with such a world-class musician.
