Symphony Orchestra is a select ensemble comprised of the four major string instruments, violin, viola, cello, and string bass. The repertoire includes both string orchestra and full orchestra works by a variety of composers. Music is selected from many musical styles and periods and represents a performance level of V or VI in the NYSSMA manual. Each member of the orchestra is required to attend rotating class instrumental lessons in school once per week. This orchestra will perform a minimum of three times during the year, and these performances are a required aspect of the course. Activities may include evening concerts, competitions, and school and community performances. At designated concerts, winds, brass and percussion from the wind ensemble are added to the orchestra. These students join the orchestra rehearsals at designated times, in preparation for full orchestra concerts. Auditions for this ensemble are held early 2nd semester and are open to upcoming 10th, 11th, and 12 graders.
Note: Members of this ensemble wear specified concert attire for their performances.
