English as a New Language

  • In the area of language acquisition, the goal of the English as a New Language (ENL) Program is to provide students with the opportunity to develop communication skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing, enabling them to be successful in the classroom.

Instruction for English-language learners, also known as English as a second language (ESL) or  English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), serves students who are from another country or who speak a language other than English in their homes. Students are identified as a result of their parents filling out a Home Language Inventory form upon their children entering school or by teacher referrals. Students receive small group instruction in and/or out of their classrooms to enrich their English reading writing, speech, and listening skills.
