• September Recap

Posted by Danielle Read on 10/4/2019 2:00:00 PM

September was a busy month here in the library. Here's a recap of some of the activities...

    • All 7th and 8th graders received technology orientation to make sure they understand how to access the web-based instructional sites they will be using this year.
    • All 6th graders participated in a Library Quest to get familiar with their new library, the staff, and resources available to them, as well as the expectations for responsible library use.
    • All 6th graders also completed a 2-day technology orientation to ensure they are set up for success with the instructional technology used here at Barker.
    • The Scholastic Book Fair was a huge success! Thanks to all who supported our PTSA and the library by volunteering and making book fair purchases.

As we move into October, we're looking forward to some exciting things, including Newbery Book Club and an author visit. More details to come!!

Enjoy some pictures of the fun things kids can do in the library.

  • Welcome to the 2019-20 School Year!

Posted by Danielle Read on 8/28/2019 3:00:00 PM

I hope you all had a fun summer! I did a lot of reading this summer so I'm sharing my summer reading #bookstack with you here. I read a variety of books from typical middle grade novels to some YA/teen books, and a few adult books as well. I focused mostly on realistic fiction (my favorite genre), but I did sneak in one fantasy, two nonfiction books, and a couple of novels in verse. I even enjoyed listening to some of these on audiobook while taking long summertime walks.

The Barker Road library staff has been working hard to get the library ready for the first day of school. We have lots of new books for you to check out so stop in and see us!

Don't forget to turn in your summer reading log! You can bring it to the library or give it to your English teacher.

We can't wait to see your smiling faces!

Today, our 7th graders enjoyed a visit from award-winning author, Jordan Sonnenblick! In authentic storyteller fashion, Mr. Sonnenblick shared humorous, true stories from his life and writing while inspiring students to recognize, nurture, and share their passions in order to achieve true happiness.

  • Maker Lab: Catapult Challenge

Posted by Danielle Read on 11/16/2018

The library hosted a Catapult Challenge Maker Lab event. Students were given a box of materials to build a catapult. The catapults were tested for accuracy and distance. By designing, testing, and re-working, groups were able to build successful catapults using everyday items. The library will host more Maker Lab events throughout the school year for students to tinker and create in a self-directed setting.
