Novel Studies discussed in Book Clubs
-
At various times throughout the year, the class will read novels and discuss using a book club format.
Elements of a book club:
- Students read the same book as others in their group.
- Before students start reading, the group meets to create a calendar which outlines what pages/chapters need to be read each night and which days the group meets. Each student will be given a copy of the calendar. Extra copies are available at school.
- Most of the reading is done in school.
- If a student is unable to finish the daily assigned reading in school, they can complete it for homework that night.
- Students need to come to their group meeting having:
- 1) finished reading the assigned pages
- 2) finished the Think Pad or post-it notes (these help students to remember the content they intend to discuss during the meeting)
- 3) finish the assigned written response (either RACE or letter - students will know which)
