Here are the audition excerpts for Chamber Orchestra students. It is one page for each instrument. Please find your instrument (there is only one part for violin), learn the material between the brackets [ ] to the best of your ability (don't forget STARS!), and be prepared to submit video auditions between April 1 (no joke) and April 3rd. Videos must be submitted by 11:50pm on April 3rd. If I do not receive a video from you, it means you wish to stay in Chamber Orchestra for the next school year. For your own reference, the first piece is the 4th mvmt of Britten's Simple Symphony, and the second piece is October by Eric Whitacre. Use any and all resources to achieve the most success :)
What am I looking for? Accuracy in notes/rhythm, advanced technique, and advanced musicality. I am assessing how well you learn music on your own, as well as your ability to successfully play the more challenging repertoire of Symphony Orchestra.
How should you make the video? Using any video platform, submit to me a continous, single take, non-edited video (no stopping and starting of the camera) of you playing each excerpt. Your video should end up being about 2 minutes long. Be sure I can see you fully, including left and right arm. Submit your video using the Dropbox link below.
Assignment 1 - due 3/27
Using a music-listening platform of your choice (Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Amazon Music, etc.) take a 30 minute walk outside, and write down each song you listen to. You need at least 6 songs, and while the genre doesn't matter, I DO want them to be songs that you really enjoy! Complete the Google Form I sent via Remind and, with your permission, I'll share the results back with you all so that we dicover new music and maybe even find new connections with our peers over music we love.
