    Like many communities, the Pittsford Schools make use of a variety of abbreviations that can be confusing to those new to the system.  Below are some of the more common abbreviations you may encounter as you participate in the school.

    BMS or BRMS
    Barker Road Middle School

    BOCES
    Board of Cooperative Education Services

    CMS or CRMS
    Calkins Road Middle School

    CSE
    Committee on Special Education

    DPT
    District Planning Team:  A group of teachers, administrators,parents, and board members that selects strategic issues and plans for the district

    ELA
    English/Language Arts

    ESL or ESOL
    English for Speakers of Other Languages

    HEAC
    Health Education Advisory Committee

    IEP
    Individual Educational Plan (for children with special needs)

    ILC
    Instructional Leadership Council: A team of administrators, teachers, parents, and community members whose purpose is to monitor the functioning of the Curriculum Management System and advise the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction on matters related to the District’s instructional program.

    ILT
    Instructional Leadership Team: A team of school staff with parent representatives that is the policy-making group for the school. Called Building Planning Team (BPT) or Building Leadership Team (BLT) in some schools.

    IST
    Instructional Support Team: a team of school staff designed to provide teacher to teacher support and develop intervention plans to promote student success

    Odyssey of the Mind: An after-school problem-solving competition for students

    PAC
    Parent Advisory Council: A team consisting of the superintendent and district PTSA chair people who meet monthly to share ideas/concerns of parents

    PASS
    Pittsford Advocates for Special Students: A parent organization that advocates for children who have disabilities.

    Pupil Services Team: A multidisciplinary team comprised of school staff who help provide early intervention to students in need.

    Shared Decision-Making:  A process for sharing decision making with all stakeholders. Similar to Cooperative Decision Making
