Brown Bags & Books

  • Brown Bags & Books!

Brown Bags & Books is a program designed to motivate students in grades 3 - 5 to read while learning to appreciate and respond to literature.

The Mendon Center School Librarian’s (Mrs. Estes and Mrs. Lancto) will present a different book selection to each classroom of students and allow approximately 12 students to volunteer to participate at a time. Students who participate will have about a month to read the book and then meet with their librarian and classmates over lunch on a designated date to discuss the book.

Each 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade class will have two opportunities throughout the school year to participate. The second time a class participates, priority will be given to those students who did not participate the first time. This program is an individual choice for students, not the choice of the teacher or parent. Such choice provides enhanced motivation for student reading, and we anticipate that most students will choose to participate of their own volition.
