• Pittsford Central School District – Beginning Orchestra Program

    Rehearsal Expectations,

    Responsibilities and Procedures

    • I will practice my concert music at home and come to rehearsals prepared to join in the fun!
    • I understand that it is my responsibility to know when our rehearsals are and
      • to get myself to the rehearsal “on-time.”
      • I will arrive 2 minutes before our rehearsals begin.
    • I will remember my instrument and all necessary equipment for our rehearsals.
    • I will know how to begin our rehearsals by:
      • placing my instrument case in the suggested location,
      • rosining my bow - north to south.
      • I know to patiently stand in line by Mrs. Grace so that she may
        • carefully tune my instrument while using
        • my bow hook for safety.
      • Then, I know to take my seat where I find my name card.
        • I understand that I might not sit in the same place as the last rehearsal.
        • Please remember that this is a non-competitive orchestra.
      • I know that when Mrs. Grace addresses the orchestra at beginning of the rehearsal she says,
        • “GOOD AFTERNOON ORCHESTRA” and then we respond as an orchestra altogether,
        • “GOOD AFTERNOON MRS. GRACE!”
        • This is our cue that it is time to begin our rehearsal!
        • From this point on – all attention and effort go into making the rehearsal successful.
        • I understand that our Orchestra Rules are said together as a team before we begin playing.
    • During the rehearsal I know how to be an active and respectful orchestra member.
    • I know that I am valued and respected as a young musician and
      • I will show respect and value all members of all performing groups in our school.
      • We support each other!
    • I will demonstrate proper rest position and instrument position with a correct bow hold.
    • I understand the most important safety issue at each rehearsal is that:
      • our bows must stay under our control ****AT ALL TIMES****.
    • I will strive to read musical notation and understand musical terminology.
    • I know how to show proper care and maintenance of my instrument
      • before, during, and after the rehearsal.
    • I know – not to play anyone's instrument except my own.
    • I understand that I will not chew gum at rehearsals, lessons and perforamces.
