SUNSCREEN REMINDER
In accordance with The State Education Department and the 2012 memorandum update, the following guidelines regarding the use of sunscreen are as follow:
Schools are no longer required to obtain a medical provider order to allow a student to carry and use sunscreen in school if
- The sunscreen is used for the purpose of avoiding overexposure to the sun and NOT for medical treatment of an illness or injury;
- The sunscreen is approved by the FDA for over-the-counter use;
- The student’s parent/guardian provides written permission for the student to carry and use sunscreen. (A student who is unable to physically apply sunscreen may be assisted by an unlicensed personnel when directed to do so by the student, if permitted by a parent/guardian and authorized by the school).
***Please do NOT send aerosolized sunscreen as that may be irritating to other students with breathing problems.
***A parent permission note must be renewed annually to be valid for that school year.
*** students shall keep their sunscreen in their backpacks and will not share with other students. Please contact your school nurse if you have any questions.
