Learning Specialist

  • The Learning Resources Teacher is a certified special educator who provides support in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics, content area skills, thinking skills, and fine motor skills to students who have been identified as having learning problems or learning disabilities. Students in grades K-5 receive such support as a result of recommendations of the PST, on which the Learning Resources Teacher serves. Students may receive instruction in the Learning Resource Room from 2-5 times a week for anywhere from 20-45 minutes a session.

Should a student need more support, the District Committee on Special Education may determine that s/he has specific learning disabilities. Such students can be seen up to approximately one hour a day in the Learning Resource Room or as outlined in their Individual Educational Plans.

The Learning Resources Teacher also provides in-classroom materials as needed upon teachers’ requests and tests students as necessary for placement.
