This is my 31st year of teaching - wow! I have been in Pittsford for 20 years. I previously taught in the Ithaca City Schools, Brockport's Hill School and Cobbles School in Penfield. All but 4 of those 30 years have been in fourth grade - I LOVE fourth grade!! I hold a BS Fine Arts with a Music Concentration from Nazareth College and a MS in Education from SUNY Cortland. I am also a certified reading teacher. My students quickly figure out that while I love all of what I teach, reading great books and social studies are my favorites.
I love spending time with my family. There is my husband, Dr. Oliver, who is a scientist and President of Vacuum Innovations, located in Dansville. His work is in Optical Coating. We have two children, who are both Mendon High grads (and Thornell alum). They are both college grads and work for their dad in our family business. For fun we like to fly our hot air balloon, Up-C-Dazey. We also like to go boating, four-wheeling and to hang out at our home in the countryside in Canandaigua.
My personal favorite hobby is genealogy - I have a huge family tree. I am the secretary and researcher for my hometown historical society and a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
I can't forget to tell you about our four-footed family members - first there are Tilly, Maisie Mae and Luna. They are mini-doxies who love to play together. Luna (the black one) likes to swim and play fetch - all the time! Tilly (the chocolate one) is the cuddler, and Maisie Mae (the baby, she is tan) likes to bark at everything! Then we have our big girl, Bailee, who is a Golden Retriever. She is not very retriever-like; she does not retrieve and she hates the water. She just wants to be petted all the time!
Interesting facts:
1. I am the 10th great-granddaughter of Susannah Martin who was killed as a witch in Salem.
2. I started out at SUNY Fredonia to be a music teacher. Can you guess what instrument I play?
3. I am from Canisteo, New York, which is the home of the World Famous Living Sign. Have you seen it?
