Native Americans of New York State
We take a look at the native people who were living in what is now New York prior to the arrival of the Europeans. We look at how they lived, their reliance on nature, and eventually their encounters with the Europeans as they arrive. There were many groups living here long ago. We will look at the Lenape and Algonquin, but we will focus mainly on the Iroquois, as the Rochester region is their native territory. We will take a field trip to the RMSC to experience the "At the Western Door" exhibit.
