Memory Strategies
-
Research shows that it takes about 15 to 25 minutes of practice over several days to successfully memorize and retain information. By studying a little each night, you will be able to better remember information.
Memory Strategies:
Mind Map
Organize mental maps from known information then fill in missing information (details, main ideas, categories/parts, diagram labels).
Example:
Acronyms
Let the first letter of each word represent the first letter of the words/list you wish to memorize.
Example: Huron
Ontario
Michigan
Erie
Superior
Write It
Write it repeatedly and say it aloud as you write. Write it just before you go to sleep.
Visualization
Create a mental image. Rules: make the image big, make the image weird, make the image move, add details.
