About the BOE
The Board of Education is the official policy-making body of the school district. It is responsible to the State of New York and to local school district citizens for the education of public school students. School boards must carry out the laws and regulations pertaining to the education of young people. The school board is charged with:
• Approval of school district policy, programs of study, textbooks, and hiring of teachers and administrators.
• Responsibility for school sites and the construction and equipping of school buildings.
• Obtaining and budgeting money to operate the schools.
The Pittsford Board of Education is comprised of seven Pittsford School District residents who are elected by district voters to three-year terms at the annual school district election. A president and vice president are elected by the Board at the annual organizational meeting in July. Board members are not paid for their service.
The Board of Education meets monthly with exceptions as scheduled. Visitors are welcome, and there are opportunities for comments by the public. For detailed information on the Board’s meeting schedule, select the calendar option.
