Languages offered at PCSD
French:
In French, your student will:
- Engage in speaking, listening, reading and writing activities in French, with an emphasis on speaking and listening.
- Acquire vocabulary on a variety of everyday topics. For example, shopping, travel, food & beverage, family, and weather.
- Deepen understanding of a wide number of cultural references; for example, Les Misérables and Haute Couture (high fashion industry).
Here are some ways French could be used in the future:
- When traveling to French-speaking places, including France, Canada, as well as many countries in Africa.
- Often used as a business language throughout the world.
Latin:
In Latin, your students will…
- Engage in reading, writing and speaking.
- Acquire vocabulary and explore culture through stories about Greco-Roman mythology, and the daily life of a Roman family.
- Deepening the understanding of English through the Latin roots that exist in over 60% of English words.
Here are some ways Latin could be used in the future…
- Understanding Latin roots will help with legal, medical, and scientific terminology.
Spanish:
In Spanish, your student will learn…
- Engage in speaking, listening, reading and writing activities in Spanish, with an emphasis on speaking and listening.
- Acquire vocabulary on a variety of everyday topics. For example, shopping, travel, food & beverage, family, and weather.
- Deepen understanding of the many cultures that make up the Spanish-speaking world.
Here are some ways Spanish could be used in the future:
- When traveling to Spanish-speaking places, including Spain, Mexico, as well as many countries in Central and South America, and the Caribbean.
- Spanish is the second most common language spoken in the USA, after English.
- There are many opportunities in areas such as medicine, law, science, and hospitality.
