TIES

Together Including Every Student at Pittsford Schools - T I E S

TIES is a Pittsford Central School District program that promotes belonging and participation for young people with special needs in extracurricular and community activities. Trained high school and middle school student volunteers provide the individualized support needed by TIES participants in a spirit of fun and learning. The student partnerships formed are based on shared interests and provide a natural impetus to friendship building among group members. If you would like more information about the TIES program, please send an e-mail to the TIES Coordinator: Dale_Cameron-Kody@pittsford.monroe.edu

TIES Testimonials:

Sapna - What does TIES mean to me?
"The TIES program has been a part of my life since I was in 8th grade. I have gone to games group weekly to play board games, done track class at the YMCA, gone swimming during summer school, and done speech therapy with the students. To me, TIES is all about having awareness of those around you, and accepting and embracing them. My experiences have given me the opportunity to help others, and have allowed me to learn how to interact with all sorts of people. I would tell anyone who might be interested that in a world that is becoming more about first impressions and communication, this experience will provide them with skills that will stick with them forever, as it has for me. I have built real relationships with each student I have worked with, and have found myself, my values, and my confidence in the process."

Tom -- TIES Volunteer:

"Volunteering for the TIES Organization over the last five years has been an incredible experience and blessing for me. It has been wonderful to see the appreciation of the students and their families for the organization’s work, support, and respite. TIES opens up new, exciting opportunities for both the volunteer and student that adds fun and joy to our everyday lives. I have had the opportunity to participate in one-on-one tutoring and assistance, Special Olympics and Unified sports, and drumming circles. The TIES program has allowed me to work with a close-knit group of students who I have developed very strong bonds with throughout our high school years. The family of a student who I worked with as a TIES volunteer has asked me to continue this relationship and work as a home respite worker. I cherish the memories of seeing these students’ excitement upon seeing me in the halls, their smiles when they scored a basket, and their true joy of being a part of a collective group. The TIES organization has given me so many opportunities to grow and help those around me."
