Social and Emotional Learning
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the ongoing process through which children and adults learn and apply knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and demonstrate empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
SEL: What's It All About?
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is embedded into the PCSD culture. It is how we do business, allowing students to be their best selves and do their best work. Teachers and staff at PCSD actively incorporate SEL strategies and practices into schools at all levels. The District offers a wide range of professional learning opportunities which prepare teachers and staff to include SEL into the classroom environment and curriculum experience for all students.
What SEL is:
- Aligned to PCSD

- Supportive to academic behavior
- A journey of continuous improvement
What SEL is Not:
- A silo or stand-alone program
