Fall (1st Semester) 2026 Pittsford Driver Education Program Details
Eligibility:
Students must be at least 16 years old and possess a valid learner’s permit before their first driving session.
Enrollment is subject to instructor availability. Pittsford Central School District will make every effort to accommodate enrolled Pittsford students.
Students with significant scheduling conflicts (sports, work, vacations, etc.) should consider postponing enrollment if attendance requirements cannot be met.

Course Requirements:
New York State requires completion of:
24 hours of classroom instruction
24 hours of in-car driving/observation
Students must successfully complete all 48 hours and earn a minimum grade of 65% in both classroom and driving components to receive the MV-285 Certificate of Completion.
The course includes:
NYS-required 5-hour pre-licensing instruction
Preparation for safe and responsible driving
Eligibility for a senior license at age 17
Potential insurance discounts
Attendance Policy:
Attendance is required for all classroom and driving sessions. Any missed class must be made up.
One classroom make-up and one driving make-up are included.
Additional make-ups cost $25 per session.
Parents/guardians are responsible for transportation to and from all sessions.
Excessive absences (more than 3) may result in dismissal from the program without refund or failure to earn the MV-285 course completion certificate.

Theory Session Options:
(All classes begin at 6:30 PM and meet once weekly during 1st semester for 16 sessions)
Option A – Mondays (Thursdays when Monday is off for holiday)
· Sutherland High School, Room 120
· Dates: 9/14–1/21
· No class: 9/21, 10/12, 12/28.
· Class will meet on Thursday 9/24, Thursday 10/15, Make Up Thursday 1/21.
Option B – Tuesdays
· Mendon High School, Room 101
· Dates: 9/15–1/12
· No class: 12/29
Option C – Wednesdays
· Mendon High School, Room 101
· Dates: 9/16–1/20
· No class: 11/11, 11/25, 12/30
· Class will meet on Thursday 11/12
Driving Session Options:
(All sessions meet once weekly. Pick-up/drop-off occurs at either Mendon or Sutherland High School main entrances.) Driving teachers have some discretion to start and end times. Times may change.

Staffing is scheduled based on enrollment. Once registered has closed, no refunds will be issued.

Summer 2026 Program Details
All Classes start on Tuesday July 7 and end on August 11.
Make-ups scheduled for August 12, 13, and 14 (FRIDAY).
Class location is: Park Road Elementary School; Room B1.
Theory Classes -
The program includes 24 hours of instruction. Students will attend lectures (1.5 hours each) three days a week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
If a student misses a fourth class, they might not be eligible to receive the Certificate of Completion (MV-285).
Driving Classes -
For the behind the wheel driving portion, students must complete 24 hours of driving/observation with a certified driving instructor. (16 sessions at 1.5 hours each).
If a student misses a fourth class, he/she may not be eligible to receive the Certificate of Completion (MV-285).
Students are encouraged to contact the program coordinator (Tom Welsher) as soon as they know they will be absent for a scheduled driving session.

Option 1: Back-to-Back Session 7:30AM-10:30AM (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
Option 2: Back-to-Back Session 9AM-12PM (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
Option 3: Back-to-Back Session 10:30AM-1:30PM (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
Option 4: Back-to-Back Session 12PM-3PM (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
**Option 5 is a Split Session; students have a break between theory and driving
**Option 5: Split Session Theory 12PM-1:30PM Driving 3PM-4:30PM (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
Absence Policy
Absences in excess of three may be charged an additional fee of up to $25 per session.
Failure to attend sessions could result in the student not earning the MV-285 Certificate of Completion or being dropped for the program with NO REFUND.
