2021-2022 Back to School Information
Back to School Information 2021-2022
We have been working diligently for the opening of school and return of our wonderful students. Below are some of the important updates and changes. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
Schedule – Class periods are 39 minutes with a 4-minute passing time. Lunch periods are 30 minutes.
Masks - All students, staff and visitors are required to wear masks in school buildings, regardless of vaccination status. Masks are not required outdoors. Teachers and staff will offer mask breaks when students are seated and not actively involved in conversation.
Open House – Open house this year is on Thursday, September 23rd from 6pm-8pm and will be in person. More information about Open House will be coming from the school after the start of the year.
Lockers & Backpacks – Students will be issued a locker at the beginning of the year. This year, we will allow students to carry backpacks with them throughout the day. Students will be issued a school laptop, so a backpack may help with that transportation during the day.
Student health screenings – Students and staff will NOT need to complete the daily morning health screening. It is important that parents check their students for symptoms and not attend or send your student to school if symptoms are present. Click here for more information about health protocols.
Health Office: The Nurse will be available on September 7 from 7:30-3:30 for medication drop-off. Please click here to connect to the Health Office webpage.
Lunch periods- We will be using the Commons, Cafeteria, and part of our small gym for lunch periods this year. All our regular lunch options will be available for our students. Students will need to pre-order wraps in the morning if that is what they want for lunch. There will be protocols in place for seating in the need of contact tracing that will be explained to students as they come to school.
PE class/locker rooms- We will not be starting the year with students changing for PE. Arrangements will be made on special occasions, like picture day, to accommodate those that need to change.
Homeroom/1st period- To clarify, a student's "homeroom" is their 1st period class. Unlike last year when the students were in homeroom at the start of the day. The 1st period time slot is extended for 3 minutes to allow for morning announcements.
Personal devices (new 1:1 policy) - As we begin the 2021-2022 school year, students will be issued a school laptop to bring to and from school each day (along with a charger and protective sleeve). These devices are for academic purposes only, and parents and students should review the PCSD Bring Your Own Device Policy as well as the EIN form (signed at the start of 6th grade). For more information please visit our Library webpage. Students will receive their laptop within the first couple of weeks of school by TEAM.
Parent portal IC – Parents will be able to monitor student progress through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. All returning PCSD parents should already have access. Parents new to PCSD will be contacted by the school within the first two weeks to set up the portal account.
PTSA – Our PTSA remains a wonderful partner and support for our students, teachers and programs. Please consider joining the PTSA. More information can be found on their webpage https://www.brms.pittsfordptsa.net/
BRMS communications – Announcements will be emailed home daily to parents. A Principal’s Update newsletter is emailed and posted monthly. Please follow Barker Road on Twitter at @PCSDBarkerRd.
Student athletes participating in Fall Modified sports will attend a mandatory sports study hall in the small gym, cafeteria or commons each school day from 2:29-3:25; coaches will meet students there prior to practice/games/meets. For more information, please visit the Athletics webpage or contact Jason Bernas, the BRMS Athletic Coordinator – email@example.com
