Hello! Welcome to my page! I am honored and humbled to be the first full-time social worker in the Pittsford Central School District. I am excited to be a part of the Counseling Department and to work with the staff and administration in promoting wellness in the areas of mental health and social-emotional skills for the students here at Sutherland.
Some things about me: I have been a social worker for over 20 years. About 15 of those years have been in various educational settings from preschool to high school. I've had several additional roles that provided me with experience in the residential system, youth legal system, foster care system, and private practice.
Some areas of specific training include child development, attachment and loss, trauma, and play therapy. I have worked in systems such as foster care, residential, teen and young mothers, and special education. Outside of work I enjoy backpacking, playing guitar, yoga, CrossFit, BBQing, and checking out the various eating establishments in the area.
My wife and I have a therapy dog, Maya. I could talk forever about that dog! Here's the short version: Maya is a 7 year old F2 Goldendoodle. She began her training immediately after coming home with us when she was 8 weeks old. She spent her first two years coming to my old school with me every day. Pittsford approved a therapy dog policy in the 22-23 school year and Maya has been coming at least once a week since the middle of that year. She also goes to Mrs. P's school once a week. Everyone seems to love having her in the building which has been great to see. She even has her own Instagram page @missmayapuppy for those that want to learn more about her.
Thanks for stopping by!
Mr. P
