Thornell Road Counseling
Hello, Thornell Road families.
Below, you will find my typical web page information. I am in the process of updating information, links, and resources to assist students and families in this time of school closure. This is a time of uncertainty and sometimes fear, but also hope as we come together as a caring and supportive community. My goal is that some of the resources on this web page will provide help and comfort. I remain available at my contact information below. Please reach out if you have needs, questions, or concerns. The well being of our community is important to me and the whole district. Email is the quickest way to contact me directly. I will still be checking voice mail. I share a wish for you that I learned in my mindfulness training - May you be happy, may you be healthy, and may you be peaceful.
The Pittsford School Counseling Program is comprehensive, developmental, and preventive in nature. It is designed to help all students become effective learners, achieve personal and social goals, and develop into responsible, contributing members of a global society.
As School Counselor at Thornell Road, I am one of the fortunate staff that works with students throughout their elementary years. There are many services that I provide for students, classrooms, families, and staff.
Classroom lessons are designed to be age appropriate and build upon varied skills throughout the elementary years. I visit primary classrooms to teach age appropriate lessons in social skills, teamwork, problem solving, self regulation and conflict resolution. Intermediate grades learn about growth mindset, pursuing challenges, self-advocacy, communication skills, standing up for self and others, doing one’s best work, and being one’s best self.
Individual counseling can be provided on a short-term basis to assist with social, emotional, and academic challenges as well as family concerns, anxiety, and school adjustment. Students, parents, or teachers may initiate services by contacting me directly. My contact information is below.
Peer support groups are formed when there are students with similar needs. Groups typically focus on friendship and social skills, changing families, anxiety and stress management, and school transition.
I am also available to families to discuss and support any concerns that may affect a student’s ability to learn. Feel free to stop in and talk. Please do not hesitate to contact me; my email and voicemail are private and confidential. Working together we will be most successful!
Professionally, I also participate and collaborate on a variety of school and district teams. I serve on the Social Emotional Learning Committee, Instructional Support Team, Pupil Services Team, and Post Incident Response Team.
