  • Welcome to 8th Grade Orchestra!

    Dear Parents and Students,

I hope you all had a fantastic summer full of exciting activities, time together as a family, and some well-deserved relaxation. Summer has come to an end and the new school year is here! I am very excited to be working with you!

As we begin this new year, I would like to offer some words of encouragement from a quote by Ludwig van Beethoven: "The barriers are not erected which can say to aspiring talents and industry, 'Thus far and no farther.'" This is one of my favorite quotes, as it embodies something that we strive for in music and in education in general. There are no walls up that prevent one from improving more and more. As musicians, our constant focus while practicing and rehearsing is on continuous improvement. We do not have to settle for "good enough" because there is nothing stopping us from making adjustments and tweaking the way we perform various skills. Remember, the way we learn and the way we improve, in all fields of study, is by taking risks, trying something new, making mistakes, and learning from those mistakes. I ask that you put forth your best effort, play with energy and passion, make some mistakes and learn from them, and have fun making music!

I look forward to another wonderful school year with all of you!
