It is my honor and pleasure to serve as Superintendent of the Pittsford Central School District. Having worked in the District for more than 20 years—first as a teacher and principal at Barker Road Middle School, then as an assistant superintendent, and currently as superintendent—PCSD and all of the people who make up its greater community are near and dear to my heart. As a top-ranking school district in Monroe County and New York State, I am proud of our students, educators, and staff who exemplify the positive impact of quality education. More than 97% of our students go on to college, and while they follow their own unique paths in life, our alumni continue to say that their school years here continue to impact them in a positive way.
PCSD’s mission statement talks about working collaboratively to inspire and prepare our students to “be their best, do their best, and make a difference in the lives of others.” Effective communication is vital to the success of that collaboration. About the Superintendent
Mike Pero joined the District in 1994 as a health educator at Pittsford Middle School and then became assistant principal of the school in 2002. From 2005-2011, Mr. Pero served as principal of Barker Road Middle School. During his tenure at Barker Road Middle School, the school was recognized as a National School to Watch from 2005-2009 and as a New York State High Performing/Gap Closing School from 2005-2010. In his final year as principal, he learned BRMS earned the status of a Blue Ribbon School. Mr. Pero then served as Assistant Superintendent, and in 2013 became Superintendent of Schools.
He received his B.S. in education in 1993 from the State University of New York at Cortland, his M.S. in business management from Roberts Wesleyan College and his School District Administration Certification in educational administration from the State University of New York at Brockport.
He is a June 2011 graduate of Leadership Rochester. From July 2009 – June 2011, he participated in the Future Superintendents Academy, a comprehensive, rigorous and competitive program that prepares high-level administrators to become successful superintendents. He received the PTSA Lifetime Achievement Award for the 2008-2009 academic year and was named Middle School Administrator of the Year by the School Administrators Association of New York State for the 2010-2011 academic year.
