Board Insights: Gratitude and Reflections

With the year in full swing and so many amazing things happening, the Board of Education feels November is an appropriate time to take a step back and express our gratitude to students, families, caregivers, employees, and the broader Pittsford community for all they do in support of the crown jewel of our community, its schools.

We are grateful to all of the students of the District. It has never been more difficult to be a student. The immense pressure brought on by living through a pandemic, social media, ever increasing academic and testing challenges, turbulent world, and many other issues present great challenges. Despite these challenges Pittsford students show up and perform at a very high level in all facets, including academics, athletics, music, theater, clubs, and service projects. Most importantly, they show up for each other as kind human beings and work together to support, redirect and educate each other when mistakes are made. We see you, are proud of you and all of your accomplishments, and are so grateful for you. To any students who are struggling and may not feel seen or heard, please reach out to an adult you are comfortable with in school or outside of school and let someone know. The District will do everything possible to get you the supports you need to succeed during your time here and after.

To each and every employee of the District, we are grateful for you and all you do in support of our schools and students. It has never been more challenging to work in public education. You are asked to take on greater responsibilities due to increased mandates and the rising challenges our students face in the world, all while dealing with staffing shortages in many areas. These challenges are not unique to Pittsford, but what is unique is the way you rise to meet them every day to do what is best for students. No matter your role, we see your efforts, and appreciate all you do. We encourage any employees who are struggling or not feeling seen or heard to please reach out and let us know. The District is here for you and will support you.

To all the parents, caregivers, and every member of the Pittsford community, we are grateful for you and all you do in support of the District’s students. Thank you for celebrating in the District’s success and always challenging it to continuously improve. Your dedication to Pittsford Schools through volunteering with PTSA; attending athletic events, musical and theater performances; making monetary donations to support various activities, and the many other ways far too voluminous to list, is inspiring.

In May, District voters overwhelmingly supported a $69,822,169 capital improvement plan that includes important and necessary work to all nine school buildings in the District with particular emphasis on safety and security, building infrastructure, mental health, optimizing cost-effectiveness, and HVAC systems. Thank you for your continued support in maintaining a modern, safe, and healthy learning environment for students.

With gratitude to the entire Pittsford community, the Board of Education wishes all a happy and healthy holiday season.
