Board Insights: Keeping Community Informed

As the summer months come to a close, it’s time to look ahead to the start of our new school year. On Thursday, September 7, 2023, we officially welcome students for an exciting new year!

The Pittsford Board of Education (BOE) is proud to have worked closely with school leaders throughout the summer to prioritize goals and initiatives that will guide us throughout the upcoming year. Building upon our work of the past several years, and keeping our District vision at the forefront, we are eager to begin a new year of academic rigor, meeting our students where they are and setting them up for a successful future.

The BOE strives to communicate effectively with all PCSD stakeholders. It is our collective goal to continuously improve upon communication measures to best serve our Pittsford community. We welcome feedback and are always accessible by phone or email. Board member contact information can be found on the District website under the “Board of Education” tab.

In preparation for the new year, we hope that you will find our various media outlets dependable sources to connect to PCSD activities. Our Communication Office, led by Director Nancy Wayman, works tirelessly to keep our community informed. Our District website, pittsfordschools.org is a tremendous resource that we are proud to showcase. It is the most up-to-date source for all District events and information. On the homepage you’ll find quick links such as “Stay Connected” linking you to numerous outlets that PCSD uses to connect to our community. Scroll through “District News” and “Announcements” to read up on current school events. Links are provided for our Athletics Department, school lunch menus, as well as a complete staff directory. Dignity for All Students Act (DACA) is easily accessible from the homepage, as is the Safe School Helpline for 24/7 confidential reporting.

Individual school building pages can be accessed from the drop-down menu at the top of the homepage. Within the building pages, one can access parent- and student-specific resources and curriculum information. Our website houses an abundance of pertinent information that enables us to reach an unlimited number of people at any time of the day.

Pittsford Schools utilizes YouTube and various social media platforms to share recordings of Board of Education meetings, sports highlights, academic achievements, musical performances, job opportunities, and more. Subscribe today to follow all the great things happening throughout PCSD.

Who Do I Call” is a resource that helps residents direct questions to the District representative most closely connected to the issue. As Board members, we want to be able to address questions or concerns quickly and effectively. We believe that this tool allows for an expedited response to various District inquiries.

During the 2022-23 school year, PCSD hosted quarterly Power Hour sessions on topics derived from constituent concerns. Each event discussed a different topic including school safety and mental health, anxiety and worry, impacts of social media, and navigating social situations. The Board of Education regularly attends Power Hours to learn firsthand the impact these topics have on our community and how we can offer support. We saw record high attendance at all four sessions last year, indicating the overwhelming demand for future Power Hours. This year, Pittsford Schools will again host quarterly Power Hours starting with the first session on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Calkins Road Middle School

The Board of Education works collaboratively with District leaders to continuously improve and expand upon our communication mechanisms. We welcome feedback on how we can best serve our Pittsford Schools’ families.

Please be sure to stay connected to PCSD calendars, website, and social media for upcoming school events, including Homecoming Week October 2 -7, 2023. We hope to see you at our annual Homecoming parade on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 9 a.m. on Main Street, Pittsford!

Thank you for your continued support,
Pittsford Board of Education Members
