Pittsford Seniors Named to List of 2024 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists and Commended Students

Congratulations to the Pittsford Central School District seniors named 2024 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists and Commended Students by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation! They are part of a nationwide pool of 1.3 million students who entered the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).

Semifinalists are among the highest-scoring entrants in each state and represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. They have the opportunity to continue in the competition for 7,140 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million. Of the 16,000 Semifinalists, about 15,000 are expected to advance to the Finalist level from which the National Merit Scholarship winners are selected.

PCSD Semifinalists

  • Mendon High School: Mark Akladious, Alexander Gill, Sophie Khan, Rena Li, Matthew Metlitsky, Jack Peyre, Aaron Shan
  • Sutherland High School: Justine Li-Wu, Aariv Mody, Thomas Raith, Lina Yang, Maureen Zhang

Although Commended Students do not qualify to continue in the 2024 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, they place among the top 50,000 students who entered the competition by taking the PSAT/NMSQT®. These students are among approximately 34,000 Commended students in the nation who have been recognized for exceptional academic promise.
