Pittsford Central School District appreciates the dedication and stewardship of its Board of Education members and joins Governor Hochul and Districts state-wide in celebrating their work during School Board Recognition Week, October 16-20.
“School board members give the Pittsford community members a voice in education decision-making,” Superintendent Mike Pero said. “Our board members listen to all stakeholders and take the time to process as they value feedback. It takes strong schools to build a strong community, and our Board of Education members devote countless hours to making sure our schools are helping every child learn and achieve their goals.”
The functions of school boards encompass a broad spectrum of responsibilities in support of the District’s mission “to inspire and prepare our students to be their best, do their best and make a difference in the lives of others.” The school board is a non-paid body charged with:
- Policy and Program Oversight: approving school district policy, programs of study and hiring of teachers and administrators.
- Infrastructure and Facilities Management: responsible for school sites and the construction and equipping of school buildings.
- Financial Stewardship: obtaining and budgeting the funds to operate schools.
The Pittsford Board of Education is comprised of seven Pittsford School District residents who are elected by district voters to three-year terms at the annual school district election. A president and vice president are elected by the Board at the annual organizational meeting in July.
