Student Athletic Events Score Big Wins for Golisano Children’s Hospital and Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester

Rainbow Classic Raises $30,000 for Golisano Children’s Hospital

The 23rd annual Rainbow Classic basketball games on December 22 saw the Pittsford community come together once again to support a great cause, selling out tickets and raising $30,000 to support Golisano Children’s Hospital.

The University of Rochester Palestra was packed with fans as the girls’ Mendon and Sutherland varsity teams took to the court in the first game of the night. In a fast-paced, closely matched game, Sutherland High School defeated Mendon with a score of 56-50.

The boys’ varsity game was equally exciting as the Sutherland Knights led the Mendon Vikings at halftime and kept the momentum going with Sutherland High School winning the game 58-40.

Since the Rainbow Classic began, PCSD has raised approximately $600,000 for Golisano Children’s Hospital. Funds raised from this friendly cross-town competition have supported various projects at the hospital, including Pediatric Intensive Care Unit patient rooms, the Child and Adolescent Eating Disorder Program, the Teen Lounge, the Pediatric Palliative Care Program and more. Proceeds from this year’s Rainbow Classic will support the Golisano Pediatric Behavioral Health and Wellness Center.
