Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council

During the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council’s first meeting of the year, students from Mendon and Sutherland High Schools met with Superintendent Pero to discuss goals, review committee norms and talk about what issues they’d like to address and work to change. One of the main points students talked about was the need to create an inclusive, safe environment where everyone feels free to be who they are without judgement. The advisory council includes 16 students — two students representing each high school grade level from both schools. Their collaboration with District officials helps ensure that student voices are heard and reflected in policies and initiatives that affect students. “The energy, enthusiasm and insight these students bring to the table is inspiring,” said Superintendent Pero. “One of the most rewarding parts of my job is to hear from our students and work together towards continuous improvement that is seen and felt by everyone,” he said.
