TEDxPittsford Sutherland HS Features Student Speakers and New Perspectives

TEDxPittsford Sutherland HS will feature student speakers on Thursday, March 7, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. in Sutherland High School’s auditorium. Under the overarching theme of "In a New Light," speakers will introduce attendees to new perspectives in the hopes that participants will walk away seeing the world (or at least part of it) in a new light. This free event is open to the public, no tickets or registration required.

TEDxPittsford Sutherland HS is part of the TEDx movement—an independently organized series of events officially licensed by TED—designed to foster dialogue and inspire audiences with "ideas worth spreading." This student-led initiative aims to shine a spotlight on diverse voices within the Pittsford School community.

Student speakers include:

  • Feroze Ali – “How to meet people”
Feroze is a senior at Sutherland, and founder of 3D Feroze, a small-scale 3D printing business. His many interests include origami, cooking, design, and meeting new people!
  • Quinn Cummings – “Was the entirety of Inception a dream?”
Quinn is a senior at Sutherland. She is the President of Film Club and wants to pursue a career in film.

  • Serena Devgun – “The moving sofa problem: just how do you move a sofa around a corner as efficiently as possible?”
Serena is a senior at Sutherland. She is interested in science and math, hoping to major in chemistry as a premedical student next year. After school, she enjoys taking ballet classes, being the Vice President of ChemClub, and playing piano and the clarinet.

  • Hazel Glazer – “An analysis of the similarities and differences between PCSD and the Finnish school system.”
Hazel is a lifelong Pittsford resident and senior at Sutherland. She plans to attend college to study English and environmental science next year. Coming from a family of teachers, she has always had a keen interest in systemic educational reform.
  • Grady Heffernan – “Why student representation matters”
Grady is a student with a passion for the classics, linguistics, and education. An advocate for positive change, he looks to share his ideas about education with the world. In this TEDx talk, he will speak about the urgent need for improved student representation in schools.

  • Felix Warrington – “Architecture and the spaces we inhabit”
Felix is a senior at Sutherland. Felix enjoys listening to music and experiencing new things. A Yahtzee enthusiast, he's always ready for a game. Above all, he loves spending time with family and his dog, Blue.

The event will also feature local guest speaker Dr. Don Figer, a professor and Director of the Center for Detectors at RIT and Founder and Director of the Rochester Imaging Detector Laboratory. Dr. Figer studies astronomy and has discovered more evolved massive stars and massive star clusters in the Galaxy than any other researcher. He has authored more than 300 publications.
