Pittsford Central School District Board of Education Update

As we embark on the 2024-2025 school year, the Pittsford Central School District (PCSD) Board of Education is pleased to share several key updates with our community. From leadership changes to exciting new projects and initiatives, we are committed to supporting our students, staff, and families as we continue to enhance the educational experience in our District.

Board of Education Reorganization Meeting

Before the start of the school year, the Board held its annual Reorganization Meeting on July 9, 2024. During this meeting, we elected our leadership team and introduced a new position—President-Elect—to our structure. We are excited to announce that Robin Scott was re-elected as President, Jeff Casey was elected as President-Elect, and Sarah Pelusio as Vice President. This new leadership model will allow us to streamline the transition of roles and better support our ongoing work throughout the year.

Capital Project Construction Update

This summer marked the beginning of Phase I of our District's Capital Project, which has a strong focus on safety and security. Some of the key initiatives included:

  • Secure double door, front entry vestibules at all schools
  • Door replacements and intruder locks on all large assembly areas
  • Enhanced security cameras
  • During this phase we were also able to renovate the MHS pool locker room and install a new pool scoreboard

Phase II of the project has now entered the design stage, and we plan to begin receiving construction quotes in the spring of 2025. As part of this process, the central office and building administration will work closely with staff and our design-build partners, SEI, to ensure minimal disruption to school operations.

A Rocking Opening Day

Our opening day kick-off event this year was a rousing success. The auditorium was transformed into a rock-themed celebration by our very own staff and teachers. During this event, we honored the contributions and careers of three beloved members of our community, Mike Biondi, Melanie Ward, Dwayne Cerbone. It was a fantastic way to launch the new school year and celebrate the spirit of PCSD.

Board Goals for the 2024-2025 School Year

The Board always starts the year reflecting on our role as a governance body in shaping and supporting the educational journey of our students and establishing goals for the year with that mission in mind.

One of our first efforts this year was to review best practices in areas such as constituent communication, handling board questions, crisis communication, executive session protocols, and school visits. By aligning our efforts, we can better serve our students and the community.

Power Hours Return

We are excited to announce that Pittsford Power Hours will return for the 2024-2025 school year. These sessions are designed to offer parents, guardians, and staff members an opportunity to learn together and discuss important topics affecting our school community. Power Hours will be held throughout the school year from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Calkins Road Middle School in the Commons.

As a Board, we value the real-time feedback we receive during these sessions, which helps us stay attuned to the concerns and priorities of our families. We encourage everyone to share their thoughts and perspectives so we can focus on the issues that matter most.

MCSBA Involvement

This year, the Board has been actively collaborating with the Monroe County School Boards Association (MCSBA) to stay informed about broader educational challenges and opportunities, both at the county and state levels. Through our partnership with MCSBA, we have engaged in valuable professional development and advocacy efforts on behalf of our district.

Already this year, members of the Board have participated in several key meetings and events, including the NYSSBA Summer Law Conference, Legislative Committee Meeting, Board Leadership Meeting, Information Exchange Committee Meeting, and the District Operations Committee Meeting.

Looking Ahead

The 2024-2025 school year is off to a great start, and we are both excited and optimistic about all that lies ahead for our students, staff, families, and the broader PCSD community. Together, we will continue to work toward achieving our District's mission and vision, fostering an environment where every student can thrive.

We look forward to a productive and fulfilling school year!
