Pittsford CSD Expands Universal School Meals and Introduces New Resources

The Pittsford Schools’ Food Service Department continues to expand and enhance its meal program as part of the Universal School Meals initiative. Free breakfast and lunch are currently provided to elementary school students, with plans to extend the program to secondary schools beginning in the 2026–27 school year.

The District has also engaged a consultant to provide recommendations for serving line modernization. To support this transition, the self-funded Food Service Department has invested in new kitchen equipment, including ovens, refrigerators, and freezers, along with district-wide temperature monitoring systems.

In collaboration with parents on the Universal Free School Meals Advisory Committee, the department has focused on improvements related to menu variety, nutrition, quality, transparency, and portion consistency.

Several new tools and resources have been introduced this year to support families and students. A key addition is MealViewer, a digital platform and mobile app that provides daily menus, nutritional details, and allergen information while allowing students and families to rate menu items and share feedback directly with Food Service staff.

Monthly menus have also been redesigned to include more detailed meal information, highlight local New York State foods, and introduce new flavors. Elementary schools now feature “Try It Thursday,” encouraging students to sample new foods.

Additional updates include new à la carte menus featuring nutritious snack options, a Lunch Account Restriction Request form for families using MySchoolBucks, and expanded online resources. Food Services will also be providing breakfast and lunch to students in the Extended School Year program over the summer.

Over the coming months, the Food Service team will continue preparing for the secondary-level rollout of Universal School Meals, expanding MealViewer features, updating kitchens and equipment, enhancing menu offerings and hiring and training new staff, including a Field Supervisor position that was recently filled.

Families can find menus, resources, and contact information for Food Service staff on the District website at https://www.pittsfordschools.org/departments/food-service.
