Try-it Thursdays in the Lunchroom!

During the month of March, Pittsford’s elementary school cafeterias kicked off “Try-it Thursday!” as a way to encourage students to step out of their comfort zones and try food from different cultures. It was a big hit with students who were offered Chicken Tikka Masala, a popular Indian dish known for its flavorful spices and creamy tomato sauce. Students had the opportunity to order it as part of their meal or simply try a sample. To make the experience even more fun, everyone who gave it a try received a special sticker.

By offering dishes from different cultures, Pittsford’s elementary schools hope to help students expand their palates while learning a little about the world through food.

Because of the great response, “Try-it Thursday” will take place once or twice each month and Pittsford’s Food Service staff looks forward to sharing more unique and delicious foods from around the world to spark curiosity about new flavors and cultures.
