The Pittsford Central School District is pleased to announce the appointment of James Bates as Assistant Principal at Mendon High School. Bates was formally appointed by the Board of Education at its September 8, 2026, meeting and will begin his new role on October 9.

Bates brings a strong background in science education, instructional leadership, and school administration to his new role. He began his career as a middle school biology teacher and department leader at East Rochester High School. He has also served as an Assistant Principal at Monroe 2 BOCES and as an Assistant Principal at Western Wayne Summer Academy.

Bates earned an associate’s degree in liberal arts and science from Finger Lakes Community College. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in Adolescent Education from St. Bonaventure University.

Continuing his commitment to educational leadership, Bates earned an Advanced Certificate in School Building and District Leadership from the University of Rochester.

“Throughout his career, James has demonstrated a commitment to supporting students, teachers, and school communities,” said Superintendent Shana Cutaia. “His experience in the classroom, department leadership, and school administration will provide a valuable foundation as he joins the Mendon High School administrative team.”
