Mesude and Manaar were chosen by their school principals following a collaborative process involving teachers and student leaders. New York State requires all school districts (outside of New York City) to appoint at least one high school student as a non-voting member of their boards of education. The initiative aims to strengthen student civic engagement and elevate youth voices in education policy.
