• MHS Back to School Information 2021-2022

    We have been working diligently for the opening of school and return of our Vikings. Below is some important information for families. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.

    Schedule –Class periods are 40 minutes with a 4 minute passing time. Lunch periods are 40 minutes. 

    Homeroom/2nd period - To clarify, a student's "homeroom" is attached to their second period class unlike last year when the students were in homeroom at the start of the day. The second period time slot is extended for 9 minutes to allow for morning announcements.

    Masks – Students, staff and visitors are required to use a face mask while indoors per NYS mandate. Masks are optional for students when outdoors (i.e. PE class, outside classes). Mask breaks will be provided for students in classes throughout the day.

    Open House – Our Open House this year is on Wednesday, September 22nd and will be in person. Open House will be from 6:30-8:30pm.  More information about Open House will be coming from the school after the start of the year.

    Lockers & Backpacks – Students will be issued a locker at the beginning of the year. As always, students can carry backpacks with them throughout the day. 

    Student health screenings – Families will NOT have to complete the health screening each morning for their students. Parents should monitor their student for any signs of illness and keep them home. Click here for more information about health protocols.

    Lunch periods - We will be using the Commons for lunch periods this year. All of our regular food options will be available for our students. Students will need to pre-order wraps in the morning if that is what they want for lunch. There will be protocols in place for potential contact tracing is needed, which will be explained to students as they come to school.

    Study hall/ Free periods - All students will be assigned to a study hall as opposed to a free period for potential contact tracing purposes.   

    PE class/locker rooms - We will not be starting the year with students changing for PE. Arrangements will be made on special occasions (i.e.. presenting in another class, picture day, etc.) to accommodate those that need to change. 

    Parent portal IC – Parents will be able to monitor student progress through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. All returning PCSD parents should already have access. Parents new to PCSD will be contacted by the school within the first two weeks to set up the portal account.

    PTSA – Our PTSA remains a wonderful partner and support for our students, teachers and programs. Please consider joining the PTSA. More information can be found on their webpage.                                                   

    Teachers and other staff members have been planning ways to support students as they transition into the new school year.  Students’ physical and emotional well-being is at the forefront of our work.  Please contact your counselor or administrator if you have any questions or concerns.
