Maria Hill Hired as Coordinator of Social Emotional Learning

 

A close-up of a person smilingDescription automatically generatedAfter a thorough search and interview process, Pittsford CSD has hired Maria Hill as Coordinator of Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Having served as the Committee on Special Education Coordinator for Pittsford Schools since 2015, Hill will begin her new role on July 11, 2023, pending Board of Education approval. She replaces Stephanie Barg who has been hired as Principal of Jefferson Road Elementary School.

As Coordinator of Social Emotional Learning, Hill will lead and facilitate the development, implementation, and evaluation of a coordinated, comprehensive and integrated approach to social emotional learning and behavioral supports across District-wide initiatives. She will also provide regular and ongoing support to school mental health teams and work with internal and external providers to ensure appropriate levels of service.

“Mrs. Hill brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the field of special education and will continue to serve the diverse needs of Pittsford students in her new role,” said Superintendent Michael Pero.

Prior to coming to Pittsford Schools, Hill worked for Buffalo Public Schools from 2008-2015 as CSE Chairperson (Gr. 5-12) and Special Education Teacher (English, Gr. 8-12) from 2006-2008. Other teaching experience includes serving as a special education teacher for schools in Springville, NY, Buffalo, NY and Country Club Hills, IL.

During her 21 years in the field of education, Hill has lent her expertise on a number of committees, including the Special Education Advisory Committee, Curriculum Instruction Team, Math Ad Hoc Committee, and District-level Behavior Intervention Team at Pittsford Schools. She also facilitated committees to update the paraprofessional process/document and the District 504 Manual at Pittsford Schools.

Hill holds a B.A. in Elementary and Special Education from Niagara University, an M.S. in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Walden University, and an Educational Leadership Advanced Graduate Certificate from Stony Brook University. She also earned NYS Professional Certifications for School District Leader, School Building Leader, and English Language Arts 7-12; and NYS Permanent Certifications in Elementary Education (Pre-K - 6) and Special Education (Pre-K - 12).
