Offered at both Mendon and Sutherland High School, the “Take a Look at Teaching” club offers engaging activities including a recent forum where a local college student, teachers and administrators discussed their various roles in education and the path they took to achieve their goals. Paige attributes her decision to pursue a degree in education to one of these discussions. As a senior, she was struggling to determine what she wanted to study in college, but after attending her first “Take a Look at Teaching” activity she decided that art education was her path forward. According to Cerbone, attendance at these monthly meetings has far exceeded expectations. “The fact that students are actively participating in these meetings and getting excited about the field of teaching offers a measure of hope for shoring up teacher shortages with more students pursuing teaching and contributing to the education of future generations.”
