Pittsford Central School District has the second-widest range of housing options and second-best socioeconomic climate out of 431 Upstate New York school districts according to the 2019 Buffalo Business First specialized rankings.

Although specialized rankings do not affect a district’s academic score, they highlight characteristic categories for all 431 districts in the ranking. The categories range from housing options, socioeconomic climate, cost-effectiveness, diversity index, teacher pay, teacher experience, administrative efficiency, achievement index and student access.

Housing Options

The Housing Options category, as defined by Buffalo Business First, identifies the districts that offer the widest range of housing options for prospective homeowners.

According to Buffalo Business First, “each district is rated in five areas: ownership rate for homes, share of homes with at least eight rooms, median year in which local houses were built, share of homes worth $200,000 or more and median home value.” PCSD was ranked second-best among the 431 school districts in the ranking.

Socioeconomic Climate

Buffalo Business First’s Socioeconomic Climate ranking identifies the school districts where students benefit from a high standard of living. PCSD ranked second as it provides a high standard of living for all of its residents.

PCSD was ranked as the 58th most cost-effective school district among 431 school districts. This ranking recognizes districts that achieve educational excellence despite relatively low spending per pupil as compared to the other 431 school districts.

The higher the ratio, the more cost-effective the district.

Diversity Index

Among the 431 school districts, Buffalo Business First places PCSD as the 61st most diverse school district in Upstate New York.

Each district is rated according to the Gini-Simpson index for its student body. The higher the index, the greater the diversity.
