Thornell Road Students Document TRE’s 50 Year History
Thornell Road Elementary School fourth graders may very well be historians in the making. Fourth grade teacher Toni Stevens-Oliver and her class have recently written “Thornell Road School – 50 Years,” a book that outlines the history of the elementary school.
The students have worked for the past nine months on the book. They researched primary source documents such as newspapers, property deeds and interviews, and also worked alongside the Monroe County Clerk’s Office and the Department of Finance.
The students have dedicated the book to “all of the faculty and staff that have walked the halls of Thornell Road and called it ‘home.’”
The book is being entered into the NYS Archives Student Research Awards by request of the Archives Partnership Trust.
