PCSD Celebrates All-Staff Opening Day
Pittsford Schools’ employees gathered on August 31, 2022 for All-Staff Opening Day. Superintendent Michael Pero, Pittsford District Teachers Association President Dwayne Cerbone and Board of Education President Ted Aroesty welcomed the standing room only crowd and offered words of gratitude for the role PCSD teachers and staff play in providing a supportive environment for all.
In his opening day address, Superintendent Pero spoke about how a supportive environment is built on a foundation of empathy and compassion. A supportive environment, he said, includes treating one another with respect, gratitude, trust and integrity; avoiding blame and forgiving mistakes; and caring for and inspiring others. “We need to assume goodwill among those around us. Supportive relationships should be at the forefront,” he said.
In addition to nurturing an emotionally supportive environment, Superintendent Pero also emphasized the importance of a physically supportive environment where safety is a priority. He reminded staff of the multi-layered approach Pittsford Schools takes to safety which includes, among other things, adhering to a single point of entry in school buildings. Safety measures such as emergency alert buttons, intruder locks, indoor/outdoor cameras, security guards, emergency preparedness training and the ID badge/visitor sign-in system are some of the other layers of safety that work hand-in-hand with the “See Something, Say Something” protocol for staff, students and families.
Pittsford Schools thanks each and every staff member for the important role they play in helping students feel safe, valued and supported and looks forward to the 2022-23 school year!
