Mendon Center Elementary School hosted International Day on March 3 as staff, students, families, and volunteers shared an array of cultural & ethnic traditions each representing the Mendon Center Elementary families and their ancestries.
This bi-annual tradition supported by the MCE PTSA returned for the first time since 2019. Students enjoyed a full day of immersive fun-filled learning, which included performances, workshops, demonstrations, and displays. Students took their passports and “traveled around the world” visiting tables representing the U.S. Embassy and 17 different countries including:

- Brazil

- Israel
- Japan
- Netherlands
- Pakistan
- Scotland
- South Africa
- South Korea
- Taiwan
- Turkey
Additional interactive learning experiences included a Cultural Show featuring special cultural performances by a parent presenting a modern folk Bollywood dance from the south Indian state of Kerala; two students and their friends presenting a South Asian Diwali Dance; teacher Mrs. Wang on the Chinese Pipa, a traditional Chinese instrument; another Bollywood dance by two MCE 3rd graders; and Irish dancing by seven students of the Dunleavy Irish Dancers.
Hall exhibits and classroom workshops continued throughout the day to feature Kathak Dance, Tae Kwon Do, Taiwanese folk music, Womba Flute & Storytelling, Steel Drumming, Sari Wearing Workshop, Origami, Calligraphy, Mexican crafts, Native American Storytelling, Cricket, and Padilla Percussion.
