Due to the dangerous road conditions, we will be closing campus during the lunch periods today.  Students must stay on campus during periods 5, 6, & 7 for safety reasons.  Thank you for your cooperation.

The Chess Club will be traveling to Brighton High School after school today for its competition. Chess Team members should be at the bus-loop stairwell at 3:20.

 

Senior Superlative winners:  Don't forget to come to the Commons on Friday at 2:30 to have your picture taken. See Mrs. Holmes if you need to schedule an alternate time.

 

Midterm Week is coming:  Join us on Friday, January 11th during all lunch periods for Cocoa and Cookies presented by SHS Link Crew.   Link Leaders will share helpful tips about the upcoming Midterm Exams along with great ideas for stress relief!  Everyone is welcome to participate.

There will be a Lance meeting after school on Wednesday, January 16th, in room 348. We will be discussing article ideas for our upcoming issue. New members are always welcome!

 

Come create some nail and yarn art with Art Club. Interested? Sign up outside room 140. Meetings will be January 16th and the 30th.

 

Attention Parents: The Yearbook is in dire need of winter sports candid pictures. To date we have only received Hockey pictures and our deadline is Monday Jan 14th. Please send jpeg images to; dede_holmes@pittsford.monroe.edu  Thanks for your help!

 

Our annual Pink the Rink Panther Hockey game will be on Saturday, January 19th at the Polisseni Center at RIT at 7:00 vs. Webster Schroeder.  This game recognizes those affected by Breast Cancer and raises awareness and money for Breast Cancer Research. Tickets and t-shirts will be on sale for the game in the Commons next week starting on Monday.  Tickets and t-shirts are $5 each for a neat package of $10.

 

Community Service

Need community service hours? Many volunteers are needed for the Odyssey of the Mind Spontaneous Day, Saturday, February 2nd at Thornell Road School from 8:30am- 12:30 pm assisting teams.  No experience needed!

The Department of [ist.rit.edu ]Information Sciences and Technologies (IST) at RIT is pleased to announce our 5th Annual GetConnected! Computing technologies workshop for students in grades 8 - 10. This 1-day event will provide students with an opportunity to learn about computing technologies by participating in hands-on workshops led by RIT students and faculty. Students will learn to make their own website, use a Raspberry Pi, and more!  To register, go to:  ist.rit.edu/getconnected

 There will be an Eastern Monroe career Center (EMCC) Open House on Thursday, January 31, from 6:30 – 8:00 pm.  This for current 9th – 10th graders and their parents.  Learn about the various programs offered at EMCC, including Cisco Networking, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Visual Communications & Photography, Automotive, Trade Electricity, Welding and more.  To find out more about the Open House, go to [monroe.edu/emcc]monroe.edu/emcc.

Interested in a career in Nursing? The University of Rochester Medical Center Office of Nursing Recruitment is offering two more workshops this year.  Learn about the nursing career, speak to a panel of nurses from different areas and take a tour of in-patient units. Participants must be 16 years old and a current physical and flu shot are required.  Students must provide their own transportation and this is an excused absence. Applications are available from Mrs. Tyler in the Counseling Office.

New Scholarships:

Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Rochester Alumnae Chapter: For senior girls only. Must demonstrate good scholastic ability, involvement in school and community activities, 3 letters of recommendation and a personal essay are required. $1,500.  YMCA of Greater Rochester Multicultural Scholarship Program:  For graduating seniors of color to pursue a cause driven career or volunteer relationship within the Y movement. Minimum GPA of 3.0. Multiple awards ranging from $1,000 - $3,000.  Please see Mrs. Tyler in the Counseling Office for an application.  Deadline is 4/30/19.

In Sports:

Panthers Wrestling won an exciting match against Rush-Henrietta last night. 35 -29. It all came down to the last match of the night, tied 29-29 Senior and Captain Alec Mariciniak clinched the win for the Panthers with a Pin in the first round. Other wins last night from Nick Sanko by Pin!, Nate Cotroneo win by points, and Max Murphy win by points, Come cheer on the Panthers next Wednesday January 16th at our senior night and match again Fairport. 

 

Panthers Hockey:  At Tuesday night’s Teacher Appreciation night, Pittsford Varsity Hockey defeated Brighton 7-4.  Danny Judge scored 2 goals, 1 assist, Zack Quinton Scored 1 goal and Cam Storrar was in net for the win.
