Summer Construction Projects
As students and staff are welcomed back to school, they’ll benefit from construction projects that were underway over the summer. Recent renovations include:
Parking Lots
New parking lots have been installed at the Transportation/Maintenance/Food Services facility and Allen Creek, Mendon Center and Park Road Elementary Schools. Additionally, a new drainage system was installed under the parking lot at Allen Creek to assist in accommodating the increased traffic demands of Full-Day Kindergarten.
Full-Day Kindergarten Preparations
In preparation for the launch of Full-Day Kindergarten, several elementary school classrooms were reconfigured to accommodate Full-Day Kindergarten, particularly at Mendon Center and Jefferson Road Elementary Schools. Onsite crews also constructed and assembled built-in casework and furniture to support the Full-Day Kindergarten program.
New Multi-Purpose Room
A new multi-purpose exercise room is being constructed at Sutherland High School in place of the pool that has been out of commission due to the exorbitant costs that would have been necessary for repairs to a pool built in the 1950’s. Recent improvements include:
- A self-leveling cushioned laminate flooring that will be well suited for many instructional purposes and/or large-group and computer-based testing needs.
- Additional flooring in the area where new bleachers will be installed for large group instruction as well as athletic events, such as wrestling competitions.
- New drywall, paint, and the installation of padding on walls.
High School Gym Floors
Due to New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) changes in line dimensions, high school gym floors got a facelift. They were sanded, refinished and restriped.
Digital Sign
A new digital messaging sign is up and running on the front lawn of Mendon High School.
Construction Completed on Schedule and Under Budget
“Our District work crews have done amazing work in extreme heat with minimal contractor assistance, which has kept us on schedule and under budget,” said Assistant Superintendent for Business Darrin Kenney, who oversaw the projects.
The overall success of these renovations has not gone unnoticed. In reflecting on PCSD’s recent construction projects, the New York State Education Department Facilities Planning Office said, “The District has successfully performed a tremendous amount of work providing significant environmental quality improvement in a very cost effective manner.”
Additionally, the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) plans to highlight Pittsford Central School District in its Annual Report and public communications as “the type of very successful projects that DASNY supports.”
