Pittsford Mendon and Sutherland High Schools Recognized in 2019 U.S. News & World Report Best High School Rankings

Pittsford Mendon and Sutherland High Schools were recognized in the 2019 U.S. News & World Report’s Best High Schools Rankings. According to the report, Pittsford Mendon High School was ranked 23 in New York State and 184 in the nation. Pittsford Sutherland High School was ranked 27 in New York State and 223 in the nation. Mendon High School and Sutherland High School were ranked highest among Rochester area districts. Over 17,000 schools were ranked across the U.S. and over 1,200 in New York.

U.S. News & World Report revamped the national and state rankings methodology in 2019. The new ranking methodology evaluates schools based on six indicators, including college readiness, college curriculum breadth, math and reading proficiency, math and reading performance, underserved student performance and graduation rate. The highest-ranked schools are those whose students excelled on state tests and performed beyond expectations, participated in and passed a variety of college-level exams and graduated in high proportions. The data used to produce the rankings came from The Common Core of Data from the U.S. Department of Education, statewide math and reading level assessment tests and high school graduation rates from state education agencies, Advanced Placement examination data from The College Board and International Baccalaureate examination data from International Baccalaureate.
