SHS Student Named Grand Prize Winner of RPO Young Artist Auditions

Congratulations to Sutherland High School student Amy Feng who was named the Grand Prize winner of Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra’s (RPO) Young Artist Auditions and received the Aldridge-Tinker Scholarship for Instrumentalists.

RPO has honored talented Rochester area high school musicians since 1955 through its Young Artist Auditions. Forty-six students competed in this year’s competition that was conducted virtually with remote panels of accomplished professional educators and performers reviewing video files submitted by contestants.

Ten cash awards, $500 for winners and $200 for runners-up, were offered for five categories that included female vocalist, male vocalist, strings, piano and instrumental (woodwind, brass, percussion, harp or guitar). The winners and runners-up from the five award categories then competed for the vocal and instrumental $1,000 college scholarships. The Grand Prize winner, Amy Feng, who was selected from among the winners in the award categories, will have the opportunity to perform with RPO.
